More information
Exceptional sideboard at support height in Macassar ebony on oak frame, embossed leather and polychrome with stylized floral decoration. Central part with projection opening with two doors, curved side parts each opening with a door. Beautiful ornamentation of gilded bronzes in the belt. Sainte Anne gray marble top. The piece of furniture rests on six ovoid, fluted legs with a black patina. Clément Mère (1861-1940) is originally from Bayonne where he followed the courses of Jean-Léon Gérome. After studying at the Paris School of Fine Arts, in 1900 he joined the La Maison Moderne gallery, then met Franz Waldraff with whom he created his workshop in 1902. Clément Mère's furniture creation is restricted, reserved for the diplomatic corps, national museums and the upper bourgeoisie. (Rothschild and Frisch de Fels)
