More information
Superb solid pearwood table with richly carved high-relief decoration of irises and whiplash motifs. Curved base with carved overhangs, decorated with abstract forms creating a fluidity and dynamism characteristic of Edouard Colonna. Edouard Colonna (Mulheim am Rhein, May 27, 1862 – Nice, October 14, 1948) was an artist of eclectic talent, working in furniture, jewelry, porcelain, and textiles. After studying architecture in Brussels, he went to New York in 1882 and worked with the Tiffany company. He exhibited his works at the Munich Secession in 1899, in Turin in 1902, but most notably in Paris, at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, in the "House of Art Nouveau" of Samuel Bing's group, to which he belonged.
