More information
A rare and exceptional Japanese-style commode in molded and carved beechwood, opening with two drawers. The top is shaped like a pagoda, featuring curved and openwork edges, as well as a molded frieze, and is decorated with a dragonfly and butterfly flying over a flowering marsh. The side panels and front are decorated with water lilies, arrowheads, and flowering rushes. It rests on four cabriole legs with rounded bases; the uprights are formed of fluted columns carved with water lily flowers. A marquetry signature is inset on the butterfly's wings. Remarkable quality of cabinetmaking, superb original condition, and a beautiful patina! Reference: Gallé Furniture by Alastair Duncan and Georges Bartha
