An exceptional desk in solid mahogany and molded, openwork, and carved courbaril veneer. It features a curved, stepped top with three drawers, a top adorned with a molded edge with concave and rounded sides, lined with its original brown leather writing surface, and two drawers in the frieze. It rests on four curved, ribbed, and openwork angled legs, adorned with gilt bronze foliage and flowers, as are the drawer pulls. The Orchid furniture, like the Water Lily furniture, was designed and crafted for prestigious clients; each piece was made to order and produced in small series of no more than four or five. Our example exemplifies the technical and artistic talent of Louis Majorelle. Museum quality!
