A rare desk in solid walnut and rosewood veneer, molded, carved, and inlaid. It rests on a slanted base carved with twisted motifs and connected by a stretcher. The top, with its rounded edges, features its original embossed leather covering. It is surmounted by two curved drawers, a niche fitted with letter holders, and a shelf inlaid with wisteria on a Japanese ash ground. It opens with a convex drawer in the frieze, original gilt-bronze handles and keys, and a hot-stamped maker's mark on the top. Superb waxed finish.
