A superb dressing table/lady's writing desk in solid, molded, and carved walnut. It opens with a drawer in the frieze. The whiplash-shaped base consists of a solid, curved upright extending its full height, crossed by two stiles, a lower rail, and a stretcher. The top features marquetry depicting two bees on fern leaves in figured sycamore wood. The upper section comprises a pivoting mirror with scalloped edges, inlaid with orchids, reeds, and ferns, and adorned with two circular brackets supported by wooden uprights. The handle and supports are in gilt bronze, stamped in the hot iron. Remarkable quality of cabinetmaking and a superb patina!
