Description
Spectacular triple-glazed vase, circular in form with a flattened, shouldered body and a shuttle-shaped neck. Rare and magnificent decoration, deeply acid-etched in reserves, depicts purple trees in the foreground, followed by a panoramic view of Rio Bay teeming with birds in shades of purple against an opaque, orangey-white background. Superb luminous effect! Exotic motifs are very rare in Gallé cameo vase production; views of Rio are limited to only half a dozen different designs in an estimated production of 200 vases.
